SEK-Atlantico is a member of the IB® World Schools International Community. It is the first school in Galicia authorised to teach the 3 International Baccalaureate® programmes from ages 3 to 18, integrating them into the  national curriculum.

The International Baccalaureate® programmes correspond to the following educational stages:

Early Childhood and Primary Education – Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Secondary Education – Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Baccalaureate – Diploma Programme (DP)

From year two of Primary education to Baccalaureate SEK-Atlantico students are prepared for the Cambridge University Examinations; in the second Baccalaureate year, in addition, for the Alliance Française Diplôme d’étude de langue française

Nursery (from 0 to 3 years of age)

The teaching team aims to make every day an exciting experience full of new sensations

  • Bilingual immersion from 4 months old with a school day 50% in English

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme integrated into the national curriculum

Extraordinary abilities need extraordinary stimulation

  • A complete and personalised education that maximises students’ potential whilst making the learning process enjoyable.
  • Cultural immersion and bilingual education: 50% of the school day in English.
  • Jolly Phonics: phonetic method for the acquisition of reading and writing skills.
  • Through research and discovery students develop skills and competencies.
  • Weekly planning and detailed information about the student’s academic and personal development.
  • Distributed into groups called “centres”: facilitates cooperative working, self-determination and personal attention.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme integrated into the national curriculum

  • Teachers motivate and guide students to play the leading role in their own learning and so that they can become lifelong independent learners.
  • Develop research and discovery skills both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Linguistic and international immersion: 45% of the school day in English.
  • Starting from year 3 of Primary Education the study of a third language: French.
  • Active, sympathetic, respectful and collaborative students, with the ability to participate in their surroundings.

Secondary Education – The Middle Years Programme (MYP) integrated into the national curriculum.

  • Development of creative, critical and reflective thinking.
  • Students with an international mindset.
  • Teachers guide each student’s learning process.
  • Intelligent Classrooms allow for flexible ways of working: individualised and in teams.
  • Improvement and consolidation of communication, verbal and writing skills in English and French.

We train individuals who are focussed on learning, responsible and well-balanced, who can make practical connections between their studies and the real world when it comes to solving problems.

SEK-Atlantico students can choose between doing the LOMCE (Spanish) Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate®

The Spanish (LOMCE) Baccalaureate

  • Students acquire the necessary training and maturity to gain access to tertiary education with self-reliance and responsibility.
  • Creativity, self-confidence and a critical sense is encouraged.
  • Teachers personalise the learning process.
  • University advice with activities developed by the Guidance Department and in collaboration with public and private universities.
  • The Social Sciences and Science and Technology modules are delivered.
  • Special emphasis is put on fluent and correct verbal and written expression in various languages.

International Baccalaureate® Diploma Programme.

 

 The Diploma Programme is a two year course. The students who take it are recognised for both the LOMCE Baccalaureate and the baccalaureate final evaluation examination.

  • Recognised by the most prestigious universities in Spain and overseas, it is a rigorous programme that prepares students to face successfully the professional and personal challenges of the 21st century.
  • It encourages the student’s international mindset, independent research work, critical thinking and prepares them for the world and for multiculturalism from a global perspective.
  • The IB® Diploma Programme educates and encourages students to be sympathetic people who, at both a local and global level, act and collaborate to achieve a better and fairer world.
